Are you getting enough downtime?
Forget what the world tells us about productivity and busyness. Downtime is more important now than ever. Are you giving yourself enough rest?
I've shared two other ideas for lessening our stimulation and getting ourselves out of dopamine cycles.
Single-tasking and removing optional tech from our lives.
I'm not going to lie. It's been tough for me to hold myself accountable.
It's too easy to stay stuck in my multi-tasking, smartphone ways when I don't feel pressure from the world or people around me.
Maybe you notice the same?
Regulating our dopamine takes determination and a willingness to break away from the pack.
This kind of change is expected to be gradual instead of sudden.
If we can find even one or two moments in our day that lessen stimulation, we're on our way to success.
With that, here’s a third idea for lessening stimulation.
3. Regular Downtime
(If you missed the others, here are ideas one and two)
Thanks to our society's dopamine economy and productivity pressure, regular downtime can feel shameful or guilt-ridden.
But let me flip the script right now:
Being human doesn’t get in the way of our productivity like the world makes us believe.
We’re meant to move slower and allow our brains to process and integrate information.
If we rush from one thing to another, we don’t experience life.
We race through it.
Regular downtime helps refuel our bodies and energy.
We have a finite amount because we're meant to enjoy and be present in our physical experience.
If it were unlimited, we’d never stop otherwise.
We're meant to have preferences and are forced to choose based on what we like and don’t like.
That's what our Creator intended.
This is on purpose.
In Action
Allow yourself to rest.
What does that look like for you?
It could be:
Taking a nap
Shutting off the laptop for the whole weekend
Tucking a smartphone into a drawer
Canceling plans
Saying no
Do less and go slow.
Downtime means doing something for the pure joy of it.
Not because it has some monetary value or productive outcome.
Money isn't the ultimate qualifier.
Joy and health are.
Give yourself downtime for the joy and health benefits it brings you.

Good Quote
“Burnout is more of an issue of poor energy management and low clarity than of over-giving.”
- Brendon Burchard
Good Question
Move up the ladder to higher vibrations by writing at the top of a blank page:
What can I do during downtime to truly feel rested?
and see what flows from your pen. No judgment or editing.
